The Accomodation

The cosy 4-star hotel rooms are where comfort meets simplicity! Beautifully renovated, with the occasional overlooked tile or piece of joinery that makes it so Balkan. Unwind in a tranquil space adorned with tasteful decor and furnishings, offering a warm retreat after a day of exploration. Sink into your bed for a restful night's sleep. The rooms are thoughtfully equipped with modern amenities, ensuring your stay is both convenient and enjoyable.

Step into the spa for a rejuvenating experience or take a refreshing dip in the inviting pool to relax. There is a rudimentary gym for the truly motivated.

Dinner is table service served in a large room, with a well-equipped bar at the ready. There is no nightlife here, and apres-ski is basic!

The Skiing

Cat Skiing, Resort Skiing and Touring

The first 2 days of the trip cover the weekend deliberately to make use of the big chairlift, it's only open on weekends! The resort therefore offers a chance to find the best snow and get used to the conditions and beautiful views. The bars normally come down to keep you safe on the chairlift, and some of them have footrests too!

Thereafter, we will cat-ski. Basically a piste basher with a cabin welded on the back that fits about 12 people. We have booked a private cat for our group for the 4 days. Be sure to wear your seatbelt as it gets quite steep at times! The cat takes us up, and we ski down to various locations on a fairly well-preserved cat track around the mountains.

We also have a chance to take the cat up in the morning and then put together a day of ski touring (cat-assisted). This can be discussed.

Equipment

Weight is not an issue for the first time on one of our expeditions, which also means that fitness is not a big issue on this trip.

Terry and Rich will ski on normal-length off-piste ski, around 100-110mm underfoot width. The snow could be wind-affected and crusty, or deep powder, so it's important to have a ski with plenty of width and float. For heavier skiers relative to their size and confidence, that means 110mm underfoot really.

Bindings would be best if a touring mode is available. However, not touring is negotiable with the team, but Rich and Terry love the option to be there.

Boots need only be your standard off-piste boot, ideally with a walk mode in case we tour.

A backpack with space for all avalanche safety kit and a spare layer. Though we can leave food, water and extra layers inside the cat. Luxury!

Airbags, as always are not necessary, however, given the weight and space situation, if you want to bring your airbag, then do so
